Commuters Travel To Work On The Tube Naked To Help Boost Company's Bottom Line [Blast From The Past]

It was a cheeky and unexpected sight that greeted commuters as they boarded a Tube into work.

But the four naked men and women certainly livened up the usually dull journey for many people – attracting gasps from stunned workers.

Carrying handbags or briefcases to cover their modesty – and wearing shoes – the nudes travelled on escalators and rode in the carriages as though their lack of suitable attire was completely normal.

But, rather than trying to start a new trend on the London Underground, the group were promoting a TV series which sees staff at struggling businesses helping to turn their company around.

Steven Suphi, behaviour change specialist and leadership guru, believes stripping off in the office will help boost employees' confidence and develop trust.

She said: ‘For most people in the UK going to work in the nude is a very daunting prospect.

‘I believe this extreme process will help them push their boundaries and become a close team that trust each other enough to get naked together.’

The nudes were publicising tomorrow’s episode of the new six-part series The Naked Office being screened on Virgin 1 at 9pm.

Getting Naked For Ai Weiwei [Art, Protest, Censorship]

Back in mid-Novemebr, when artist Ai Weiwei disappeared, supporters made online appeals for his return. When authorities handed him a £1.5m tax bill, they sent money to help pay it. And now that he faces an investigation for spreading pornography – his admirers have stripped off.

Internet users began tweeting their nude photographs after Ai announced that authorities had questioned his cameraman over pictures which showed the artist and four women naked.

Many Chinese contemporary artists have taken pictures of themselves without clothes, and the pictures of Ai that have emerged so far do not appear sexually charged. Some suspect that it may be an attempt by the authorities to smear the artist, whose 81-day detention this spring caused international outrage (read the full story here).

Netizens** wouldn’t stand for this. Quickly, a meme emerged: post pictures of yourself naked in support of Ai Weiwei and Zhao Zhao. A few months back,  But this is online assembly. Unable to assemble in person, Chinese citizens in the mainland and abroad are using the power of the internet meme to assemble online.

On Sina Weibo and Twitter, they used the hashtags #艾裸裸 and #爱裸裸, both pronounced Ai Luo Luo. It’s a play on words with Ai Weiwei’s name and can mean something like “Love getting naked.” Predictably, the hashtag on Twitter was quickly flooded (or “polluted,” in Chinese parlance) by spam messages from the 50 Cent Party, a paid army of pro-Party internet commentators, to make it difficult to locate images.

An Xiao states that well over a hundred pictures have been collected at awfannude.blogspot.com and on Wuala. Here’s the Chinese Internet showing the government that they and Ai won’t take these charges with their pants down!

British Naturists Bare All For Comfort [Home & Garden]

New research from Comfort Pure reveal that being naked really is good for your skin. 54% of naturists that took part in the study feel VERY confident about the look and feel of their bodies, compared to only 1 in 10 of their fully clothed counterparts.

When skin is exposed to the elements it is exfoliated naturally, helping to preserve its natural oils while leaving it clear. For those who prefer a more modest approach to life, it is best to make sure clothes are as soft as possible against your skin to help prevent irritation. Naked Rollercoaster World Record [News In Pictures, Blast From The Past]

They bared all to take their seats on the Green Scream rollercoaster at Southend-on-Sea, Essex.

Organisers were hoping they had broken a new record after 32 attempted the same feat in 2004 at Alton Towers in Staffordshire.

Event organiser Tracy Jones said the rollercoaster ran three times to accommodate the bumper crowd of nudes.

The ride took place at Adventure Island, raising money for Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation’s Bosom Pals Appeal.

Adventure Island boss Philip Miller said: ‘People have travelled from all over the UK to take part and we’ve heard some amazing stories from so many who have been directly, or indirectly, affected by cancer and wanted to give something back.’

Barbara Warner, of Bosom Pals, said it took ‘a lot of nerve to take off all your clothes’ in front of so many people. She added the appeal ‘would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who was brave enough to bare all and raise such a huge amount of cash – more than £22,000 – for our vitally important cause’.

Playing Strip Poker For Art [News In Pictures]

Art in New York is getting very hands on these days. We've got giant slides and sensory depravation tanks at the New Museum, live births at a gallery in Bushwick and now a non-stop strip poker game at the Art in General gallery on Walker Street in TriBeCa. At Zefrey Throwell's "I'll Raise You One," the artist says "clothing, charisma and a good bluff are the only currency."

The stripping started Saturday and runs each day through November 19th. The whole thing is pretty simple: "Each day for a week, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., seven players will gather around a white table in the storefront Project Space of Art In General to gamble away what most consider so dear, their clothes. At the end of each round, the players will get dressed and begin again, creating a meditative repetitious action that continues over the course of a workday."

"In a world where money has taken supreme importance and all functions of life are commoditized," the show aims to establish "a world of absurdity and purposelessness, allowing the casual onlooker to participate in a guilt-free voyeurism, while teasing out a different outlook on our personal interactions and day-to-day routines." And according to our photographer Katie Sokoler, the whole thing is also just a fun time.

This is by no means Zefrey Throwell's first foray into public nudity for art. Back in August the artist had men and women strip down amid the morning commuters on Wall Street as part of a show called "Ocularpation: Wall Street," a piece of performance art that managed to handily foreshadow the current Occupy Wall Street movement.

1000 Strip Off In Spencer Tunick Tribute To Artist LS Lowry [The News In Pictures]

Manchester, UK - More than one thousand volunteers braved the cold and stripped naked... in the name of art. People of all ages, shapes and sizes were photographed by Spencer Tunick at eight landmark locations across Salford and Manchester. The nude mass gathering was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Lowry arts centre, with the pictures set to form part of an exhibition at the venue later in the year.The New York artist has photographed thousands of nude volunteers across the world, most recently at the Sydney Opera House last month. But he chose chilly Salford and Manchester for his first multiple site installation after being inspired by the works of LS Lowry, who also captured crowds of people in public places . . albeit with their clothes on.

The volunteers were taken by heated buses to the secret locations and asked to pose naked for the early morning photo-shoots yesterday and today.

The M.E.N. was on hand to capture the action at the iconic Peel Park, Salford. The site was chosen because LS Lowry painted there and studied at the nearby Salford School of Art.

The installation 'Everyday People' focuses on ordinary men and women, and was inspired by the Salford legend LS Lowry, known for his 'matchstick men' style.

Tunick has photographed similar pieces at the Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Institut Cultura in Barcelona, Spain, as well as at the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Baltic in Gateshead.

Tunick, 43, was at the centre of the project, roaring instructions at his participants – who had nothing to protect their modesty – using a microphone.

He asked them to perform a series of poses – ranging from freezes to jumping up and down – before capturing their images.

Speaking at the Peel Park event, he said: "Hopefully it was enjoyable for the participants. I think it went really well. We had a wonderful morning of making artwork around Salford and Manchester.

"I feel like I didn't miss anything – I'm not looking back thinking I missed this or that. The people were here to make interesting artwork to reflect Lowry's paintings – they weren't here to spread a message about nudity."

Speaking after the event, Tunick said: "I think it went really well. I think we got it. I think the people here in Salford had the intention to make art.

"I feel like I didn't miss anything. I made some really good works here.I really like how scattered the bodies were. It's not so much a covering of bodies, but a sprinkling of bodies." said Tunick.

Victoria Denning, 56, from Birmingham, was one of the participants.

She said: "It was absolutely amazing. It's wonderful how many different shapes and sizes of bodies there are.

"You get so used to seeing a certain shape of body in magazines, and not one single person looked like that.

"Even the first time it felt normal because everyone was doing it and nobody was looking. It was just amazing."

Laurence Stephen Lowry (1 November 1887 – 23 February 1976) was an English artist born in Stretford, Lancashire. Many of his drawings and paintings depict nearby Salford and surrounding areas, including Pendlebury, where he lived and worked for over 40 years at 117 Station Road (B5231), opposite St. Mark's RC Church.

Lowry is famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of Northern England during the early 20th century. He had a distinctive style of painting and is best known for urban landscapes peopled with human figures often referred to as "matchstick men". He also painted mysterious unpopulated landscapes, brooding portraits, and the secret 'marionette' works (the latter only found after his death).

Because of his use of stylised figures and the lack of weather effects in many of his landscapes he is sometimes characterised as a naïve, a 'Sunday painter' although this is not the position of the many museums galleries that have organised retrospectives of his works

Ashton Kutcher Gets Naked on Ellen DeGeneres Show [The News In Pictures]

Ashton Kutcher has appeared on a chat show naked.

The actor - who recently stripped off for an advertisement for his new sitcom 'Two and a Half Men' - bared all in a sketch on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', and admitted he wants to do "everything" without clothes on from now on due to the success of the billboard.

When Ellen encountered Ashton - whose modesty was covered by computer pixilation - on her New York set, she asked: "Maybe you want to put clothes on?"

He replied: "Oh, no. Have you seen the ad for the show ['Two and a Half Men']?

"It's getting a lot of attention, so I just figured I'm going to do everything nude from now on."

In the advertisement for the sitcom, the 33-year-old hunk - who is married to actress Demi Moore - appears in the nude alongside co-stars Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones behind a billboard they are holding which carries the tagline: "All will be revealed ... 09.19.11."

As well as performing the sketch on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', Ashton revealed he is going to buy his wife candy to celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary.

When asked what he is going to purchase Demi as a present for the occasion, he replied: "Candy. It's sort of like a downfall. Right? You go from wood. Wood you can sort of come up with like, creative wood things, but candy? I don't know what to do. It's candy. I am a little lost."

A nude beach in Xiamen (a major city on the southeast (Taiwan Strait) coast of the People's Republic of China) was proposed as more swimmers choose not to wear clothes, reports Strait Herald.
Heated online debates were stirred by a naked surfer, in his 40s, who was seen near Huandao Road on August 19, 2011.

On the same day, a man was pictured swimming in the Xiada Reservoir without his clothes on.

2 female expats were filmed naked two weeks ago at the Baicheng Bathing Spot.

Mr. Huang, from Shanghai, said he flew to Xiamen last month to enjoy the naked and fearless feeling in the seawater. He wants the experience to be repeated in Xiamen every year.

Some Xiamen residents have even headed to Southeast Asia countries for a naked swim, where they will not have fear to be spotted by friends or colleagues.

A nude beach in Xiamen could be a kick for tourism, but Xiamen officials will not risk their political lives to take the lead in China, said Dai Xiaoli, an associate professor of Xiamen University.

Chinese culture is not supportive of this wild thing, and naked swimming lovers are a tiny portion of the whole society, which will have an obvious influence in the tourism development, said Xiada Prof. Huang Fucai.

The proposed beach will be a hell of a sexual harassment problem if it fails to bar uncivilized people outside of it, said Peng Yiwan, a senior tourism official.

A street survey among dozens of residents suggests 80% of them are disapproving of naked swimming in public waters, but most of them said they could accept the said behaviour on a nude beach.

Amy Winehouse Immortalised With Topless Bronze Statue [Showbiz]

Singer Amy Winehouse has been honoured in many ways since her sudden death in July, and now a memorial bust by artist Daniel Edwards has been added to the list.

The controversial sculptor, who is behind Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez''s nude statue, has created a tattoo-less, topless bust of the late singer, titled ''Memorial Portrait for Amy Winehouse'', the Hollywood Reporter said.

The New York based-artist has also added a songbird and lilies into her hair.

"I thought of her as a beautifully delicate fairytale princess, waiting to be rescued from fame and addiction, but her prince never came. I had always expected to sculpt her portrait, but I was waiting for her to put some of her troubles behind her. She had made me pay attention to contemporary music again," said Edwards.

"The portrait of Amy is dedicated to those struggling with addiction and eating disorder. Nobody should have to go through what Amy went through," said Cory Allen, the artist''s representative.

Edwards has previously made headlines for his unusual works including ''Justin & Selena Forever'' and ''Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston'' featuring a pregnant Britney Spears.

Daniel Edwards‘ website says his “pieces address celebrity and popular culture in ways that have often stirred controversy” and it’s not lying, take for example his naked Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez statue, or his Angelina Jolie breastfeeding piece, or even his naked Paris Hilton with dog and his latest design will definitely continue the trend of getting people talking, having today unveiled his Bronze topless Amy Winehouse bust.
